Merlin by Tankerd Dorst, translated by Ella Wildridge, in which David Tennant plays Arthur is often confused with a panto that he performed at Christmastime this same year called Merlin and the Magnificent and the Adventures of Arthur; as he also plays Arthur in that.

Richard Baron was the assistant director on the production, he also directed David four more times in Shinda the Magic Ape, A Long Day's Journey into Night, The Glass Menagerie and Look Back in Anger.

This production was a drama which was commissioned by the Edinburgh Royal Lyceum and adapted by Tom McGrath.

The play previewed on April 2, 1992 and ran from April 3rd - 18th, 1992.  Evening performances started at 7:45 pm and matinees at 3:15 pm and the run time was three hours.

Tankred Dorst currently lives and works in Munich. His farces, parables, one-act-plays and adaptations are inspired by the theatre of the absurd. His monumental drama Merlin oder das wüste Land, premiered in 1981 in Dusseldorf, Germany.
