ONE MAN IN HIS TIME PLAYS MANY PARTS

LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT

This production of Eugene O'Neill's great play was directed by Richard Baron, who would later direct David Tennant in the award-winning 2005 production of Look Back In Anger.  He also directed David in Shinda The Magic Ape and The Glass Menagerie and was the assistant director on Merlin.

O'Neill once said that he wrote this play in "tears and blood" as it was about the exploration of his own family experiences. Click here to read more about the play.

The set designer Tristan Antoine-Evans-Tovey's created a cutaway set with stained glass window panels.

The play ran from April 7, 1994 - April 30, 1994.

The Herald  - John Fowler -  April 20, 1994:

"I have seldom seen such sustained excellence on a Scottish stage. It is a showcase of the art." . . . "Michael Mackenzie as James Tyrone and Graham McTavish and David Tennant as his sons are equally impressive, all in lengthy and emotionally demanding roles."
This is the second time David Tennant appeared with the acclaimed Scottish actress Edith Macarthur.  The first time was in the play Hay Fever in 1992.

The actress spotted David when he was 11 and predicted that someday they would appear on stage together.  David's father, The Very Reverend Sandy McDonald, told the story on the UK show Ready Steady Cook.
